During 1998 and throughout 1999, The Wilno Heritage Society undertook several fundraising projects in order to raise capital to begin construction of the Heritage Park.
Wilno Heritage Historical Director, Teenie Shulist (nee Mask), designed a beautiful quilt that was raffled off in 1999.
The quilt top was made by Teenie and quilted with the help of Rita Mask, Martha Chippior, Theresa Shulist, Lolly Shulist, Rose Stamplecoskie, Annie Stamplecoskie, Monica Burchat and Francis Ellis. The finished quilt was a wonderful testament to the beautiful homemade quilts that have become a tradition in Wilno.
A Heritage Night was held in the basement of St. Mary's Church in Wilno on February 20, 1999 and was sponsored by the Wilno Heritage Society. Shirley Mask Connolly, researcher
and author was the guest speaker. Refreshments included a variety of Polish pastries and sweets. There was a small charge at the door which was used to help fund the Heritage Park.
Funds were also raised from the sale of a video entitled "Kanadyjskie Kaszuby" which chronicled the conversations of a number of local "Kashubians. The 51 minute, full-colour
video (with English subtitles) explored the background of numerous community members as they spoke of traditions that have continued to be a part of their lives and some traditions
that have long come to pass. This excellent film was produced by Mr. Henryk Bartul and he allowed the Heritage Society to promote and sell the film with all profits realized from the sales
going towards the construction of the Park. See our store for information on how to order a copy of this film.
